As I mentioned, I’m working as a university photographer for a while as my Alma Mater gets back into session…
…that includes new faculty. Some are just moving up ranks from Adjunct Professor status to full-time Associate Professor – oh yes, there’s quite a hierarchy – but still, they get their first photo taken.
Ah, all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, right? Oh, this isn’t the half of them… just one day’s worth.
Just some nice, even light and that’s really it… so the lighting is nauseatingly simple. Shoot through left, something low power. Then, a reflective right and a little lower for a nice catchlight but just out of range for glasses reflections. These are academics, remember? Nothing in the back, it was close enough so there would be no shadows but a little spill. Settings were something like Nikon D700 w/ Nikkor 50/1.4 sync speed @ f/7.1 on ISO100. These are those throw-it-up-in-30-seconds-and-set-the-camera-from-memory. No finessing needed. Its gonna be fine.
Things like this won’t be unusual for my daily grind, but I promise it won’t become a regular thing on here.
Stay tuned,
