“One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.”
~Luciano Pavarotti
It separates us from the animals. In some ways it makes us more human by having us sit down and go through the ritual of eating. All etiquette aside, almost everyone everywhere takes time from their day and sits for food.
Even if all you did was 30 minutes a day for your entire life, that compounds to an enormous amount of time eating.
It is one of the most significant cultural experiences one can have wherever in the world you might travel: to eat with a family – not in a restaurant, but in the family’s home as a guest – is probably my Top 5 favorite things to do while on the road. Its a goal.
Its why I could never even consider vegetarianism. Not a chance. To go to Morocco and be invited into a family’s home and refuse to eat the chicken? That would be one of the most extraordinarily profane things I could think of doing. Cultural faux pax in the most heinous sense.
We all have to eat. I advocate experiential eating wherever you go.
Stay tuned,
