So today was one of those crazy-busy days. I left shortly before 9am like I usually do… but it took 7gb of photos and 13 hours later before I came back.
But in the between time…
Like almost all universities, we put out a “View Book”… pretty much the freshman catalog that tells prospective students all about the university. Well, we’ve started shooting for the 2010 one to debut this summer.
Today I got to do first feature portrait. So I spent about an hour shooting almost every permutation of lighting schemes possible so as to be able to pick later.
This is was my favorite version. It was the last version but the most complex. For the point of technical stuff, it was done with a SB-900 in a shoot-through to the left, an SB-600 to the right for fill, a SB-800 high and to the right for kicker, and another SB-600 in the back for accent. Just fyi.
In other news, there was a basketball game tonight. And, instead of the good ol’ ceiling-mounted strobes as usual, I decided to experiment.
I decided to try my hand at lighting the court with only small Nikon strobes.
Maybe not too bad?
Well, I figured that I likely won’t always have the use of the big ceiling-mounted strobes in my regular life. So, for dark arenas (like our CAVE) I wanted to see what works.
I was just using two lights – two SB900’s – and a SB800 in commander mode. I proved to myself that it could be done… though PocketWizards or RadioPoppers might be a far more reliable way to go.
Well, that’s that. There was another couple of shoots today that I used small strobes for, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Nice weekend ahead. Stay tuned,
