While the snow is still on the ground and the roads are still definitely icy, my university had a basketball game tonight… which requires me to drive the 1.5 miles to campus. Listening to the scanner yesterday and today, there has been a wreck about every 10 or 15 minutes… so needless to say, even short distances are somewhat hazardous.
I trust my own ice-driving skills and my car’s ability to maintain traction – front wheel drive and manual transmission – I really have trouble trusting these good ol’ boys in big trucks and fat tires…
“Yeehaw! I got 4-wheel drive! I can drive in the snow!”
And, I’m pretty sure I know what its like to drive a tank now. My car is weighted down with 6 inches of snow and ice… and I’m only seeing through the area that I can scrape off before my hands go numb. Which, honestly, probably assists my traction more than anything… an extra 500 pounds of ice and snow is pretty significant for a car that only weighs 2,100lbs.
But, sob story aside, I did shoot a game.
Tonight was a bit more “atmosphere” centric than the game itself. There was another shooter for that.
It was a good crowd tonight. I heard there were 2,400 in attendance.
