“A minute is 60 seconds. You can’t change the length of a minute, but you can make it wider.”
~Zea, our fixer in Istanbul
It takes time to travel. On a bicycle, this becomes very apparent.
I prefer a bicycle to a car. Just like I prefer a train to an airplane.
It’s it a shame that both are out of vogue in the States?
To the tourist, travel is a novelty. It is difficult to comprehend that life exists in places beyond the Disney World façade.
It is why, when I travel, I make every attempt to do “normal” things as I would do it back home: get up early and jog, go to the local pastry shop or cafe instead of fast food, or just take a walk a different way than all the signs point.
Munich is just a little too picturesque at times. The whole places is just a little too shiny and the “façade” goes too far down the back streets.
But, perhaps that is because that artificial world that exists in the mind when the word “Bavaria” is used has been modeled after this place. Maybe it’s because this actually IS real!
