Driven to an ancient road…

Driving the countryside of southern Spain in a rented car…

…going places where trains don’t run and the bus system is prohibitively slow and unreliable.

Its tough, the road systems don’t make sense, its a workout driving through some of these one-lane roads, back-roads and side streets.

Aracena, Spain. In the local Spanish dialect: “Arathena.”

There’s an old basilica/cathedral there, a ruined castle…

…and a really nice cave.

.

I saw these structures in Greece a couple of times, don’t know what the connection is, though.

On the way, to and fro, the road passes through a huge mining complex.

.

So, I guess this was a post of monumental structures. The better ones are coming…

…stay tuned.
