Oh, plays… theatre… things on stage…
In the past years, you’ve seen Scrooge,ย Fiddler on the Roof, The Wizard of Oz, and… something else I can’t remember. Anyways, this one is the major production for the year: Annie.
With all the behind-the-scenes stuff to go with it…
So, brace yourself… you might need to. It is Annie after all.
Some of these black and white shots back stage are black and white not because I just love black and white – which I do – but because this is what they look like in real color:
Pardon me, I didn’t mention this was the final dress rehearsal. Kind of the press night and immediate family only.
One of these days, I’m going to find out who was the first person that made it standard for theatrical lights to have significantly different color temperatures. I’ve almost never shot a production that had even remotely natural color.
Aren’t you glad I mentioned that now? You’re going to see it in the rest of these photos… ๐
uTechnical note for photographers: from a technical standpoint, I’ve tried everything. I’ve even grey-carded it before the show, custom color balances, manual settings, everything. But the problem is that the lights change constantly, even the simple front lights, if all are on plus one color gel, it throws it all. Concerts are far more consistent because they’re all solid color and AutoWB works well. With theater lights? Nothing looks right. It is either too green or too blue.
Anyways. Moving on…
…alright, off the technical soap box. Just enjoy.
And then all is done… the end… time to be silly…
I’ve done more jump photos that I care to admit, but it is absolutely hilarious how much time it takes to get everyone to actually jump at the same time. But theatrical people were super easy. The only one that beats them might have been the cheerleaders last year.
Look at that. All of them off. Well, almost all…
So, that’s Annieย done. Haven’t heard what next year is.
It might be here, too, but just stay tuned to find out…
