Like parents do, my parents have been sending out Christmas cards for as long as I have been alive. And, as per the nature of a Christmas card (a photograph of the kids/family in the most fun place of the year) we’ve had photos in all the usual locations – Disney world, the beach, etc – and different places around the world.
Then, when we’ve gotten a bit older, we’re rarely in the same place when doing such fun things, so we’ve had to just go for creativity over location.
In 2008, the whole family was in Arezzo, Italy. That was our last full family picture. In 2009, my sister and I had our first bout with weirdness and drug furniture out in the back yard. In 2010, we were backpacking through Europe during the summer – plenty of chances for Christmas pictures there.
But this year we’ve been so busy, rarely in the same place at the same time. We had to “drag out the furniture” again and fake something.
This is the result:
Made real quick on the pedestrian bridge in Nashville, trying to beat the sunlight as it fell in the late afternoon. As late as 4:30pm is these winter days.
Fun to never know what the next year may hold. So stay tuned…

PS: If you have been following this blog for a while, you may know my propensity toward Leica. As much as I love the Leica bodies and CAN understand the price tag, I cannot justify $3000 for a lens when the $650 version does so spectacularly. This photo was shot with the M8 and a Voigtlander 15/4.5 Heliar. As ridiculously wide as this lens it, check out the verticals and straight lines… amazingly low distortion. The blue cast in the corners is the main downfall, but that isn’t too bad for the most part: it is easily corrected, but I did not for this image.
