The focal length of a taxi window…

While in an big city, I would be quite remiss if I didn’t get out there and do a little photography. And I guess I can’t articulate it well enough. Goodness knows I’ve tried in a dozen blog posts.

There’s something about photographing on the street that is extremely attractive. The photos don’t usually set the world on fire, but the process is just… fun. Maybe that’s all it is. It’s an enjoyment and a freedom.

.

Today’s “practice” was working on vertical street images.

I just don’t see vertically. Rarely vertically.

But trying to think vertically is a stretch.

Usually just horizontal and wide…

…like this.

I’m really getting used to the Leica M-E. I can see why the 28mm was such a staple for so many years. It’s a really great view.

But 35mm is, too…

…it is interesting to match the view of a camera with another view… like a taxi window.

Sitting in a London taxi jump-seat, the window opposite is pretty close to 35mm. The best part about traveling isn’t just knowing how to move around in most of the major and medium cities in Europe, but the tiny things… like the effective focal length of a taxi window.

Stay tuned…
