People have been able to travel vast distances in a single day for only a fraction of human history. Only for a very few years has it been possible to wake up in the USA and go to sleep in Tokyo in the same 24 hour time period.
For all intents and purposes, though, only a minority of the human population of the earth can afford to do such things.
